Beds for Kids
There are children living streets (not miles, or countries) away from us without a bed to sleep on. We can help.
Can you imagine facing each day tired and in pain from sleeping on the floor each night? In our towns and communities this is the reality for many children.
We've partnered with V2 Radio Sussex and the Ashton Care Group to help raise money to buy mattresses, beds and bedding. BUT we need your help.
If your school or business can help raise money, then we'd love for you to create an amazing fundraiser!

How it started

"I knew we had to do what we can to help.
Beds for Kids started with a conversation I had with one of my closest friends around two years ago. We had been talking about the fantastic work that foodbanks such as the Littlehampton Community Fridge and St. Peter and St. Paul’s Pantry do to support those who need it. That’s when she said it “it’s unbelievable, but there are children in my class who don’t have a bed to sleep on.” My heart dropped. “Where are they sleeping?” I asked. Most it seemed, were sleeping on the floor or a sofa, some got to share a bed with siblings, parents or cousins, some on a rota. As a parent of young children, the idea hadn’t even crossed my blissfully ignorant mind that there might be kids the same age as mine without the simple necessity of a bed.
Visiting a school local to Cuffs, I discovered the problem was bigger than I thought. I was overwhelmed by the scale of the situation and the realisation that I couldn’t fix it, hurt. Beds are expensive, too much for one person to buy and too much for a small company such as Cuff Miller; despite best intentions. Perhaps, I thought if I could bring together a group of companies to help we could work together to make a difference.
My next stop was the local authorities and I discovered that there was no co-ordinated scheme to help, and despite well-meant intentions, accessing a bed was not always straightforward. Not only this, when local authorities were buying beds, they were bought individually and often at retail.
I decided that in order to make this work, we would need to do three things :
1) Buy in bulk and help more people.
2) Remove the red-tape and allow responsible people in schools (such as Welfare Officers/Headteachers) and community hubs direct access.
3) Deliver the bed directly to the end user. After all, what good is a bed if you can’t get it home.
At Cuffs we have been fortunate to build a fantastic relationship with V2 Radio and this was my next port of call. I sat in a moment of silence with Rupert the Director, as he looked at me open mouthed. We were both agreed, “We’ve got to do something”. From there, things snowballed as we shared ideas and Rupert and the team at V2 got behind making it all work. I was introduced to Therese from Chichester Rotary and between the three of us we worked on the need and requirements and pushed on to build the campaign we see today.
Special thanks to Ashton Care who have sponsored the scheme to get it off the ground and live on air. Also to Chichester Rotary, Jones and Tomlin, Reynolds furniture and Eazy Lay Flooring and beds - Bognor. Most of all my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Rupert and everyone at V2,"
