Full Time Apprentice Technician

About the Apprentice Technician role

As an Apprentice Technician, you will work within our busy workshop, on a variety of vehicles whilst you study. Within the past five years there have been exciting evolutions in terms of new technologies built into new cars; from hybrid and EV to ‘hands-off’ autonomous driving assistance features.

There’s more to come too, as we move towards an increased range of Electric Vehicles. However, with new hybrid and internal combustion engine cars on sale until 2035 and around 26,000 cars in the local area alone, there is also plenty of opportunity to work with a variety of petrol and diesel powered cars for the foreseeable future.

Responsibilities and requirements

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning and practically applying skills involving vehicle servicing, maintenance and repairs.
  • Assisting with MOT tests.
  • Observing and assisting senior technicians.

  • Demonstrating a careful and considered approach to your work.
  • A strong mindset towards personal health and safety for both you and your colleagues.
  • Following manufacturer repair processes and directions from other technicians as required.
  • Working effectively as part of a team and on one’s own initiative.
  •
  •  Excellent time management.
  • Have good organisational skills and display accuracy in your work.
  • Positive attitude to approaching servicing, maintenance and repairs on both passenger car and light commercial vehicles.
  • Willing and eager to learn.
  • Proficiently communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Co-ordinate with Service and Parts departments and explaining your findings.

Due to the nature of the role, applicants will be expected to hold a full, clean, UK driving licence,  or be in the process of learning to drive

Training

Over the length of your apprenticeship (typically 30-36 months) you will receive 22 weeks of specialist training at the state-of-the-art Henry Ford Academy.

Training is attended four times per year, for a two-week period each time. This means you gain excellent insight into the latest and most exciting technology that Ford has to offer; whilst developing a deep understanding of established and developing mechanical and electrical diagnosis and repair methods.

On site and provided by Skillnet, you will be supported by a dedicated Skills Coach, visiting approximately every eight weeks to help your professional progress.

Qualifications

No formal qualifications are required at this stage and we will take each applicant on merit; however passes at GCSE level 4 (C) or above in English, Maths and ICT are preferred.

Please note that there will be assessments by Skillnet to ensure proficiency in English, Maths and ICT to ensure proficiency to the required level and additional training if required.
